NEW USA SECURITY & CARD/ACCESS CONTROL PAVILION TO DEBUT AT CEBIT '96 (trade fair logo)

Europeans have begun to embrace smart cards and their associated technology, especially prepaid phone cards, access cards and health insurance cards. American manufacturers who want to cast the global spotlight on their innovations are exhibiting in CeBIT's new USA Security & Card/Access Control Pavilion.

The International Card Manufacturers Association (ICMA) has partnered with Hannover Fairs USA to offer a special USA Security & Card/Access Control Pavilion in Hall 23 at CeBIT '96. The card and security technology as well as access control industries will have the entire Hall 23 with a total net exhibit space of over 65,000 square feet to itself.

The recent introduction of health insurance cards in Germany has increased the use of chip card technology. Demand for pre-paid phone cards and access cards is also growing. Sales of chip cards in Europe are estimated to reach US $1.3 billion in the year 2000.

"As banking and finance are going increasingly global, Europeans and U.S. card businesses are forging new alliances at a rapid pace. CeBIT will allow U.S. exhibitors to network with this indispensable European market, at the same time giving themselves an unprecedented educational exposure to the latest high technology developments via CeBIT's 6,000 exhibitors," says Mary Kay Metcalf, ICMA Communications Manager. Among this year's exhibitors are ADE, Verifone, Concord-Eracom, Datacard, Rosengrens, Digicard, and 150 other international manufacturers of card technology and access control, data security and protection systems.

"The world infrastructure in plastic cards is changing to smart cards and so is the equipment used to manufacture them, the terminals used to process the transactions, and the off-line stored value applications they are creating," Metcalf says. "CeBIT covers all aspects of card and information technology -- from microchips, to computers, to screen phones."

USA Pavilions, or group exhibits, organized for the past 10 years by Hannover Fairs USA have proven highly effective for American manufacturers entering the international marketplace through overseas trade show exhibiting.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS FORUM
The International Business Forum will take place for the first time at CeBIT '96. The International Business Forum at CeBIT '96 offers an excellent opportunity to establish contacts all over the world and lay the ground work for joint ventures. It's the ideal place to obtain in-depth information on local trading conditions, business locations and investment projects.

An area of approximately 6,400 square feet in Hall 6 is devoted to the International Business Forum. This "East-West Meeting Point", as it was called at CeBIT '95, is an outstanding way for Americans, Europeans and Latin Americans to learn more about each other, establish contacts, initiate joint ventures, and more. Representatives of official information bureaus and contact agencies from Central and South America, New Zealand, Eastern and Central Europe will be on hand to advise on all aspects of business cooperation, joint ventures, and investment opportunities, and to act as a channel for new business contacts.

Exhibitors at CeBIT can send information on the types of contacts they are looking to make to Hannover Trade Fair Authority in advance. These requirements will be available in a central information and contact exchange with an on-line terminal connected to a special database. It helps match the specific needs of exhibitors with inquiries from interested parties. A major benefit of the International Business Forum is its ability to communicate highly specific information about current economic conditions and opportunities for investment and business partnerships in a particular country or region.

CeBIT HOME
SOHO sounds like a trendy part of New York City, but it also refers to the new emerging Small Office/Home Office markets. Last year, the SOHO market continued to grow faster in Europe than in the U.S. To take advantage of this burgeoning market, CeBIT HOME, a new major exhibition is being launched in Hannover from August 28 - September 1, 1996. Use this opportunity to make your mark during Europe's pre-holiday season ordering period.

Catering to the home electronics market, CeBIT HOME is expected to draw up to 200,000 potential buyers from Germany and throughout Europe -- from end-users and small office/home office buyers to consumer electronics stores and resellers. Product sectors at CeBIT HOME include: consumer electronics; games; audio/hi-fi equipment; home automation, security equipment; media; multimedia; network computing; PC's/peripherals/components/accessories; services/on-line services; software; and telecommunications. CeBIT HOME will offer an exciting array of hands-on demos, concerts, special showcases and exhibits.
