SPECIAL EFX INTRODUCES NEW LINE-UP
Special EFX co-founder and acclaimed percussionist George Jinda introduces
the new ensemble he has assembled this summer at major venues. Jinda has
been touring to support "Body Language" with a new set of players,
including Mark Johnson, whose urban-flavored sax playing has been an integral
part of Special EFX's sound since 1994's "Catwalk." Performing
with Special EFX on their current tour are also Scott Brown on keyboards,
Kirk Lyons on bass, Scooter Warner on drums, and Ed Hamilton on guitar.
Absent from the tour is co-founder guitarist Chieli Minucci, who is foregoing
live performances in order to devote more time to his solo career. Minucci's
JVC Music solo debut "Jewels" was a critical success and he
is currently at work on his followup recording, "Renaissance."

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED BAND RELEASES "CATWALK" ON JVC MUSIC
Special EFX
kicks off the release of their 11th album, "Catwalk" with a
concert tour on September 30 at Williams Center for the Arts in E. Rutherford,
NJ; October 9 at Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, NC; October 14 at
Sunken Gardens Amphitheater in San Antonio, TX, October 15 at Disney World
in Orlando, FL; and October 22 at Inter-Media Art Center (IMAC), Huntington,
Long Island, NY. Special EFX is well known for combining guitar and percussion
with synthesizers and electric instruments to create the highly textured
sound which has become their trademark.
This instrumental urban pop band's recording, "Catwalk" (JVC
Music), is a distinctive blend of jazzy guitar, eclectic percussion and
poignant saxophone with a spicy rhythm. Since joining forces in 1982,
New York based, rock and R&B influenced Chieli Minucci and Hungarian
born, jazz-trained George Jinda have acquired a sizable following of devoted
fans. Special EFX has been the single most-played band in the history
of the NAC radio format and their album "Modern Manners" was
nominated for a Grammy.
Among their new songs are "The Nitty Gritty", which features
tenor sax, congas, cowbell, udu drum and tambourine. On the song "George
Can't Dance", Jinda contradicts that title on triangle, shaker, tambourine
and caxixis and keyboardist Szakcsi turns in a burning Wurlitzer solo.
"Hip Hop Bop" is one of Jinda's favorite new tunes. Udu drum,
congas, cowbells and solid drums provide a funky backbone for the bass.
In addition to nucleus Special EFX members George Jinda and Chieli Minucci,
outstanding sidemen Mark Johnson on sax, Jerry Brooks on bass, and Steve
Skinner on keyboards will join the concert tour. Featured player Mark
Johnson is also a recording artist on JVC.
